It has been sooooo frustrating seeing people push nicotine for health! I’m curious if this is a campaign funded by Phillip Morris. I would not be surprised if they launched an “organic,” and “grassroots” movement to support the use of nicotine…

No, that 77% yield figure comes from a controlled industrial oxidation process. Kinetic studies of cigarette pyrolysis show that thermal degradation of nicotine mainly yields pyridine, 3-methylpyridine, toluene, and benzene, which consistently show up in smoke analyses. Nicotinic acid isn't produced as a breakdown product in any appreciable amount.
